Safety Around Dogs Video AKC Offers Program for Children's Safety Around Dogs
Children and dogs go together like peanut butter and jelly. A child's first best friend is often the family pet. Yet too frequently our nation's children are not taught how to be safe around dogs.
We teach children to look both ways before crossing the street and to never accept rides or candy from strangers, and we must also teach them how to be safe around dogs.
With this in the mind, the American Kennel Club created Safety Around Dogs, Your Safety Begins with You! This program contains a 14-minute video and an activity copymaster booklet. The video and booklet teach children how to properly greet a dog, what to do when they see a loose dog and how to understand a dog's body language, among other topics.
The AKC designed Safety Around Dogs, Your Safety Begins with You! for children in grades K-6. The kit is offered to teachers, librarians, youth group leaders, animal control officers, animal shelters, veterinarians and community and civic leaders.
The American Kennel Club also offers a list of AKC-affiliated club volunteers who are available to make presentations about canine safety, and other dog-related topics, to groups of children. These volunteers, called Canine Ambassadors, usually make presentations with their dogs.
For more information about the AKC's safety program or to obtain a list of Canine Ambassadors in your state, please contact the Public Education department at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you would like to order your school or youth group a copy of Safety Around Dogs, Your Safety Begins with You!, please e-mail email@example.com. Remember to include your name, school or affiliation (for example, the Boys and Girls Club), mailing address and daytime phone.
The American Kennel Club will only ship to the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. Please call AKC Customer Service 919-233-9767 (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time) if you need to arrange shipment to a foreign country, including Mexico and Canada. The AKC will charge a $10 shipping fee to all foreign countries.

Dancing with the Stars is over. Hubby is snoring in his recliner. The kiddos are finally asleep. You are half asleep waiting for the local news. Ah peace and quiet. Suddenly you hear this tiny voice "Hey Momma I here waiting for you." You start up looking right and left. You could have sworn the kids were asleep, but then they wouldn't call you like that. There it is again. "Hey Momma I'm here in the freezer. You know you want me" Oh no it's that darn gallon of chocolate ice cream you bought for the "kids". It's been calling you all night and so far with the kids and DH awake you have been able to resist. But now it's just you and him. Suddenly you find yourself moving to the kitchen. You don't even remember getting out of the chair. No matter how hard you try to turn away the force is too great. You can still hear the voice soft and low calling to you. On it's own your hand reaches for the freeze door and pulls it open. There in all of it's glory is that gallon bucket of that darn chocolate ice cream. You know if you take it out you will be lost and that little black dress that you are going to wear to your class reunion will not fit but the sirens call is too strong. Just as you reach for the bucket out jumps your hero in it's little white carton and pink lid. That carton of Yoplait Whips that you had bought along with the ice cream to eat while the kids were having theirs. In the rush to get the groceries put away and get dinner started you must have put it in the freezer by mistake. Now here it is blocking your hand from the ice cream. Good little Yoplait Whips. You grab it and slam the freeze door shut before the ice cream can grab you. Your not sure how it will taste but you know that it will so much better for you than the ice cream. You get a spoon and go back into watch the news. The lids comes off and you go for the first spoonful. Not rock hard but still frozen. You taste and WOW this is sooo good. Who would have guessed that you could have a frozen treat that tastes good and is really good for you. When I was offered this review and giveaway by My Blog Spark and Yoplait, I though what an interesting idea. Put your Yoplait Whips in the freeze and then you have a frozen treat that you won't feel guilty if you eat the whole thing. I tried it with Yoplait's Raspberry Mousse. Have you ever had Sorbet? Well the raspberry mousse was smooth and cold and better than any sorbet that I have ever had. I will with out a doubt keep Yoplait Whips in the freezer. Because everyone in the house loves them even DH who professes to hate yogurt. Here is your chance to try it and win a "Summer Cool Down" gift bag that includes 2 free coupons for Yoplait Whips, a great cooler tote, some Popsicle molds and a set of 12 color-changing spoons.
How do you enjoy your Yoplait Whips, ice-cold or softly chilled and what is your favorite flavor? Answer this question for your first comment.

I can remember when I was a kid my great grandma would come over to our house and was our best playmate. She was always willing to come out side with us no matter how many mosquitos there were. She would be in the house talking and we would stand at the back door yelling for her to come on. She told us she would be out in 2 wiggles of a bunny's tail. We had rabbits at the time so we went out to the cage and watched those rabbits. As soon as one of them wiggled it's tail twice we were on our way back to the door to tell her. She would come out and we would make sand pies in the sand box. My parents would take us over to her house to stay overnight sometimes. She had a built in cabinet with books and games that we allowed to play with after supper. She had an old platform rocker that she would sit in with us kids on the floor around her feet. She would read stories like Black Beauty to us. Everyday I thank God for Grandparents, because who is going to teach the up and coming generations how to survive in this world.
Eight years ago the United States was attacked on this day. Thousands of innocent people where injured and killed. Lives were changed forever. We must never forget and let our guard down again. We were attacked several times before the Twin Towers in New York but we chose to ignore these attacks. All that did was make our attacker braver. Please keep the United States in your prayers today and everyday. Pray for the lives lost. Pray for our young soldiers who give their lives everyday to protect us.
September 12-18 is National Child Passenger Safety Week. Saturday September 12 is "Seat Check Saturday". The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is asking all parents who are using a child safety seat to have the installation checked at one of the centers available nationwide. To find a center near you click on this link http://www.nhtsa.gov/cps/cpsfitting/index.cfm. This link also shows centers that can help Spanish speaking parents. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children 2 to 14. This is because car seats and seat belts are misused or not used at all. The really scary part is that 3 out of 4 car seats are not installed correctly, so even if they are used there is a real chance they won't protect your child. This is why Momfluence and I urge all of you parents to go on Saturday to get your car seat installation checked. The 15 or 20 munites that it will take could save that precious cargo you are carring in your car in case of an accident.
Disclosure for my post: Amy Lupold Blair, founder of Momfluence, is acting on behalf of NHTSA's child passenger safety efforts.
I don't know where those little devils have been but they have returned and they must be starving. All summer there have been no mosquitos at my house. Last night when I got home and was walking up to the door I was attacked. Mosquitos everywhere. They really must like me becasue I as soon as I swatted one there was 6 to take it's place. Well maybe not 6 but it sure seemed like it. Hopefully they will leave soom and go back to where ever them were.
